Red Cottage

Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Several years ago I was contacted by two attorneys, who lived out of town, but were planning on moving to Steamboat.  They owned a rental property just across the street from the high school that had good bones but was tired and needed a lot of TLC. The first time I walked thru the house there were sleeping bags all over the place. Not only was it a rental property, it was rented to five young ski bums. The interior was dark and cramped.

We blew out a few walls. leveled the floors. added new windows, re-configured the stairs and built a new master bath. On the exterior, we popped a dormer out of the master bedroom for better light and views, installed new siding and trim, re-built the front porch and put on a new layer of paint, barn red, of course.

There were two old out buildings which were in such sad shape we could not save them. In their place we added a new office building for their law practice and a new garage. We laid them out to form a small, intimate compound.
